SYSTEM ANALYSIS

Nervous System
The nervous system is the control center of the body. it is made up of two parts...the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.

CNS stands for central nervous system. It is made up of the brain and the spinal cord. The central nervous system is a unique system of the body in that it is entirely encased in bone.

The CNS is the control center of the body...it's job is to receive stimuli from the peripheral nervous system and make decisions about what signals to send back.

The PNS is composed of nerves and receptors. The receptors are within cells. The nerves include 12 pairs of cranial nerves, two of which arise from the brain and 10 from the brain stem. There are also 31 pairs of spinal nerves, which rise from the spinal cord. These are termed spinal nerves. The spinal nerves include 8 cervical pairs, 12 thoratic pairs, 5 lumbar pairs, 5 sacral pairs, and 1 coccygeal pair.

The nerve cells that make up the central nervous system carry signals called nerve impulses. The nerve impulses start from either the CNS or in the receptors. These receptors are located in cells throughout the body. They are sensitive to pain, pressure, changes in body position, and also temperature

Sensory nerve cells carry the impulses from the receptors to the spinal cord and brain. Motor Nerve cells carry impulses away from the cns to respond to changes in the body, whether they originate from the interior or exterior.
